LEAD STORY
"Microsoft has third go at Exchange hole"
Let's try this again! Microsoft has cranked out a third version of an
Exchange security patch. The patches are meant to seal a security
hole that could let hackers access mailboxes on Exchange Server
versions 5.5 and 2000. The first two patches have had issues of their
own. Check out the security bulletin at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-030.asp.

[3] "EPF: Microsoft promises to play nice in embedded market"
A Microsoft official has said his company needs to lose its "does not
play well with others" reputation if it wants to be popular on the
embedded playground. Redmond plans to ask device makers for their
input and be flexible in the way it designs software in order to
shed, or at least soften, that image.

[4] "Sun blinded by devotion to Java tactics"
Is the Java a little too hot? Some analysts think Sun is so hot for
Java as an anti-Microsoft weapon, its (Sun's) Web services platform
is suffering. Sun thinks "all you need is Java" for growing Web
services, but a Meta Group analyst says other technologies, like XML,
Soap and UDDI, are more important because they create the necessary
cross-platform communication that will make those services tick.

[5] "In your face! MS open source attacks backfire"

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Experts: Birds are imitating cell phones"
Just imagine walking under a tree - you think you hear your cell
phone ring - but there's no call at all. It's the call of the wild. A
bird expert in Australia says his country's so-called "mimic birds"
are now parroting the sounds of cell phone rings. Mostly the males do
it; they're showing off to potential mates and telling other birds
"this is my territory." Apparently they're also saying, "Hey babe,
Nokia makes it ring, but I make it sing."
