LEAD STORY
"Microsoft to allow PC makers to alter some Windows
features"
Could this be some kind of bone Microsoft is throwing to Uncle Sam?
Redmond says it will change its licensing agreements with computer
makers. Those changes will enable PC makers to either delete or build
upon Windows features, like Internet Explorer. Critics say
Microsoft's move is "too little too late."

[4] Worms will become dynamic, smarter

[1] "Microsoft pushes desktop data analysis"
Microsoft plans to ship a data analysis add-on to Office XP this fall
based on technology acquired from the now defunct Maximal Innovative
Intelligence of Tel Aviv, Israel. Business users will be able to
graphically interact with SQL Server 2000 data and fire off results
to Excel 2002 and PowerPoint 2002.

[2] "Does .Net equal Web services or not?"
Developers are rarin' to code .Net. Gartner data suggest the ratio of
COM to .Net code will be about 70% .Net and 30% COM within the next
three years.

[3] "2003: The year of .Net?"
.Net - give it a couple of years. Microsoft predicts 2003 is the year
the .Net software-as-a-service strategy will really kick in. One MS
official says by then, Microsoft will have put the tools in front of
customers, and customers will have had time to use them.

[4] "Worms will become dynamic, smarter"
A man who knows his worms says Internet worms aren't going away
anytime soon. In fact, they will evolve and become more sophisticated
and subtle - and harder to spot. One day, keeping your antivirus
software current and your system patched won't be enough. Have a nice
day, everybody!

[1] "Stay on target"
Don't let Windows XP stop you from deploying Win2k on your desktops.
Differences between the two platforms are minor, says Paul Thurrott.
He advises not to be overly concerned with compatibility issues,
since "Windows XP will integrate nicely with an existing Win2k
environment." (July 2001)

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Tech words redefine Oxford dictionary"

Word to your lexicon! More words whelped from the womb
of technology have penetrated the pages of the
"Concise Oxford Dictionary." The latest version not
only includes "MP3," "e-book," and "digital divide,"
it even defines those text abbreviations you're forced
to use to save space on a tiny screen. "RUOK," "OIC,"
"KWIM" (know what I mean?) and "BCNU" are all
collected and defined in an appendix, along with a
stash of emoticons. :)
