LEAD STORY
"McAfee wins Net subscription patent"

McAfee.com has beaten everyone to the patented punch. The security
company has gotten a patent for the way it delivers its software and
services over the Internet. So all the companies looking into the
"software as a service over the Internet" strategy (Microsoft) better
not mess with McAfee.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Another meaning for 'film short'"

Two thumbs up... two thumbs down. When it comes to the latest movies,
everyone's an expert. But would the Eberts and Roepers of the world
dare to put their money where their thumbs are? Now, thanks to the
Net, there's a way to do just that -- but it's illegal in the U.S. A
British Web site is offering the chance to bet real money on the
success or failure of new motion picture releases. The online
movie-betting service is basically a futures market for films like
Jurassic Park III and Planet of the Apes, instead of pork bellies.
