ZEUS CHALLENGES MICROSOFT'S IIS SOFTWARE | Reuters

The Zeus is now loose. Britain's Zeus Technology has released Web
Server 4.0, a product the company claims can lock the door tighter on
IIS or replace it. EBay is a believer in Zeus, having moved its
auction search site from IIS to Zeus, but its main Web page is still
powered by IIS. Gartner predicts most U.S. companies will shy away
from the ungodly cost to switch from IIS to Zeus, but European
companies may be more likely to make the move.

SECURITY PATCH LEADS TO W2K INSTABILITY | ENT Magazine

Redmond looks a little red-faced thanks to the sorry security patch
it posted last week. Microsoft sent out a security bulletin
apologizing profusely for the faulty fix that could have lead to
Windows 2000 system instabilities. The original patch was for a
vulnerability that left Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 systems open
to DoS attacks.

WINDOWS XP: IS IT SAFE? | ComputerWorld

Could XP stand for "extra protection"? Even though flaws have been
forecast for the new OS, beta testers haven't been able to dig up any
dreadful security issues within XP. In fact, MS is getting kudos for
XP's embedded security features that should protect inexperienced
users from themselves and each other.

THE MISSING LINK | Beauty site gets ready for its close-up

As far as joint ventures go, this one's a beauty. Estee Lauder,
popular purveyor of products purposed for pulchritude, has polished a
partnership with French beauty bastions Chanel and Clarins to give
the Internet a little gloss. Gloss.com will offer some 5,000 products
from the French firms and the Lauder family (which includes Clinique
and Bobbi Brown). The project has been tangled in troubles for the
last few months, and industry watchers think the site will only make
up (get it?) about 5% of the companies' revenues. Health and beauty
sites had very ugly experiences last year during the dot-com debacle.
