REPORT: SAP TO BACK SUN'S JAVA OVER MICROSOFT .NET | IDG News

What's brewing at SAP? Try Java. A report in the Financial Times says
SAP will go with J2EE over .Net to develop its enterprise software.
That would be a big gain for Sun. SAP is expected to make it official
the first week in November.

SUN SETS SIGHTS ON WINTEL WITH LOW-END SERVER RELEASES | IDG News

Microsoft's burning foe, Sun, is setting its sights on Wintel. Sun is
not only updating its fleet of entry-level servers, it is rolling out
the V880, which will face off with Wintel systems in the low-end
arena. Sun will pitch the product by telling customers they can
consolidate workloads running on several Intel-based servers onto one
V880.

WITH XP COMPLETE, MICROSOFT FOCUSES ON SP1 | Wininformant

Like North Pole elves working the day after Christmas, Microsoft
employees are already working on Windows XP SP1. The beta version
should come just before a beta for Longhorn, a client release
expected in 2003. Also, Microsoft moved many of the
enterprise-oriented XP beta testers over to the Windows .Net Server
beta.

THE MISSING LINK | Report: Qualcomm's anti-hijack setup

Chalk up this bit of innovation to 9/11. Qualcomm, the company that
makes black cell phones that go in your pocket, reportedly plans to
make black boxes that go in airliners. Only these black boxes will be
very different than the ones searchers hunt down after the fact.
Qualcomm's system will relay real-time, in-flight cockpit
conversations, flight data, and video of passengers to ground
control. If anything unusual were to happen up there, ground
controllers would be able to see and hear the red flags -- and
possibly have a chance to react. Qualcomm will enlist the satellite
technology of Globalstar to get the system off the ground.
