WatchGuard secures DNS with new Firebox software | IDG News

WatchGuard Technologies has upgraded the software that runs its
Firebox security hardware. The new stuff, Firebox System 5.0, adds
muscle to DNS security with a proxy to shore up DNS servers. Look for
the upgrades to be available by month's end.

Anthrax-tainted mail sent to Microsoft | IDG News

Microsoft's Reno address is the latest place to receive anthrax-laced
mail. Six Microsoft employees were tested for exposure to anthrax --
four of the tests came back negative with reports on the other two
expected today. The letter reportedly came from Malaysia.

Former fed says XP poses a security threat | Network World

A former federal agent says XP needs to wait a little longer for the
sake of national security. He says the "data scrubbing" in XP
Professional will hinder finding digital evidence on computers,
especially the computers of terrorists. It may be a good feature
cursed by bad timing.

ASK THE EXPERT | Bill Boswell

Dear Ask the Expert,

My Windows 2000 professional workstation is unable to boot, or rather
it is constantly rebooting after the first Windows 2000 splash
screen. It is trying to show a failing device, but the time to read
the information is far too short. I got a blue screen before this
began happening. Everything seemed ok for awhile, but then the
machine suddenly died. Did the blue screen of death contain a clue
about what killed my workstation?

See expert Bill Boswell's response:

THE MISSING LINK | Playboy slashes jobs at Web unit

You know times are tough when Hugh Hefner has to slash one of his
prized units. Playboy is sporting pink slips, and they're not from
Victoria's Secret. Ninety employees are losing their jobs; half of
them work at Playboy Online. (You know, the site everyone visits for
the articles.) Playboy Enterprises, the "mother ship" so to speak,
says the layoffs are necessary to ensure profitability in 2002.
