LEAD STORY

MS RELEASES MOTHER OF ALL SECURITY PATCHES | News: The Register

A big, sticky and important patch is now available for Internet
Explorer. Microsoft released it to plug four flaws, including one
that could make IE believe that a potentially hazardous executable
file was a different, more benign file, such as a text file that
could be opened with minimal risk. A cracker could end up runing an
executable on the user's system. The vulnerability only affects IE
6.0. MS says you need to patch it now.

GOKAR FIZZLES, LEAVING LITTLE DAMAGE BEHIND | News: searchSecurity

The latest mass-mailing worm burns itself out after 24 hours. It
spread via e-mail, mIRC chat channels and infected Web pages, but did
little more than clog a few e-mail gateways. The same goes for
Zacker, another mass-mailer picked up on Thursday.

MULTI-FOREST DEPLOYMENTS FOR AD ARE OK SOMETIMES | News: ENT Magazine

This could be a sign that Microsoft is waking up and smelling the
customer concerns. The company's group program manager for Active
Directory told an audience at the MCP Techmentor Summit on AD that
Redmond has gone overboard in preaching the single-forest Active
Directory environments in the past. He said that multi-forest
deployments are totally ok in certain situations.

THE MISSING LINK | Health, not music, is top teen Web lure

When young American Web surfers log on, what are they likely looking
for? A Britney fix? An N'Sync chat room? Harry Potter showtimes? The
Kaiser Family Foundation wanted to know. Its recent survey found that
people between 15 and 24 years old spend more online time looking for
health information than downloading music, playing games or chatting.
So, are these youngsters digging up dirt on Stridex pads? Actually,
many of them look for information on certain diseases, like cancer or
diabetes. A smaller number surfs for some 411 on pregnancy, birth
control, AIDS or sexually transmitted diseases.
