    by Ed Parry, News Editor

The New Year was still in the oven, not quite done, and BOOM, along came word of a serious glitch in Windows XP (complete with FBI admonitions), a hole in SQL Server, and vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. Nothing like putting the champagne back in the fridge and walking away from Dick Clark to go install patches. Microsoft sure knows how to end/begin the year with a bang! It doesn't take Jean Dixon, Jackie Stallone or a fortune cookie to figure out that 2002 may be another year in which Microsoft pumps out the patches at a prolific pace. Between security issues and the forthcoming Web services wars, it could be a wild ride in 2002. Hold on to your hat. And remember to record "New Year's Rockin' Eve" next time around. Microsoft has its own ball to drop.
