LEAD STORY

STATES PUSHED TO EXAMINE PASSPORT | News: Reuters

The Electronic Privacy Information Center has asked authorities in
every U.S. state to take a long, hard look at Passport. Officials
with the center think Passport makes consumers vulnerable to fraud,
spam and scams, and that if Uncle Sam won't protect consumers, maybe
the states can.

XP SUCCESSOR LONGHORN GOES SQL, P2P | News: The Register

Sources close to Microsoft say the company is ready to include a new
relational file store at the heart of its next version of Windows.
And the database core will be introduced into Longhorn, with
Blackcomb getting pushed further back. That's according to the source

SUN RALLIES JAVA BACKERS TO TILT AT .NET | News: The Register

Sun has "outed" 13 enterprise vendors that have passed tough tests
for certification with the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3
specification. Sun's vice president and general manager for Java and
XML claimed 92% of companies that pick J2EE for enterprise computing,
are "happy" with it. "Happy is good, and in the software world happy
is a rare. Just ask Bill Gates with security issues," he said.

MICROSOFT ONLINE SUPPORT GROUPS THRIVING | News: ENT Magazine

Windows admins like to have some company to go along with their
misery. Microsoft's online discussion groups have gotten more and
more popular, particularly since the Code Red and Nimda attacks.
Admins went online for help, advice and comfort -- many of them think
MS could get even more involved with the group discussions.

HAVE YOU GOOGLEWHACKED? | The Missing Link

So are you through "googling" your name and the names of your family,
friends, enemies and ancestors? Looking for the next great time
killer? Maybe you should try "Googlewhacking." That's a "game" where
you take two disparate words, enter them in the Google search box,
and try to get one result. The holy grail of this game is to see the
words "Results 1-1 of 1." That's not so easy, especially considering
when you type in "bacteria" and "Zamfir," 24 results pop up. The guy
who coined the term "Googlewhack" says all he got from the search
service was a lousy t-shirt.
