MS TO OPEN SOURCE CODE TO AVANADE, OTHERS | News: CRN

Microsoft is inviting more eyes to come and see the source code. One
of the company's partners, Avanade (49% of which is MS-owned), will
get to see it this week, but more firms may follow as MS shows it to
more integrators. This "glasnost" is part of MS' source code sharing
initiative. Last week the judge in the antitrust case ordered MS show
the code to the nine dissenting states.

JAMAICAN JAILS GOING ONLINE | The Missing Link

Prisoners doing hard time in Jamaica are bustin' out -- into
cyberspace. Two of Kingston's clinks are going to be wired up.
Inmates will be able to surf from the slammer and get a taste of the
outside world. Prison officials say Net access will help the cons
improve their minds, their social skills and their work skills. Their
surfing will be monitored, though. For example, visits to
www.diggingtunnelswithaspoon.com will be forbidden.
