LEAD STORY

MICROSOFT, DOJ AGREE TO SETTLEMENT CHANGES | News: Wininformant

Microsoft and Uncle Sam say they've made some big changes to some of
the "unsettling" aspects of the settlement -- aspects critics say
were not hard enough on Redmond. The part of the original settlement
that saw Microsoft issuing new Windows licenses to PC makers is gone;
a number of technical definitions have been expanded to guarantee
that rival software components can work as well with Windows as
Microsoft components; and it is clearer what Windows "server"
software is. That's key for rivals that want to write software that
interoperate with Windows servers.

FREAK N64 DEATH PROMPTS MOTHER TO SUE | The Missing Link

Sometimes Nintendo isn't a game -- it's a gamble. It was for a
30-year-old Louisiana man. He may have known that the flashing lights
of his N64 gave him seizures, but he still spent some 48 hours each
week behind the console! His final seizure threw him headfirst into a
table -- a fatal blow. Now his mother is taking Nintendo to court.
She's suing for "her son's lost future earnings," which may not have
been much considering he spent what amounts to six workdays playing
games. Nintendo denies any accountability in this case. The company
puts seizure warnings on its boxes.
