MICROSOFT UNCOVERS CRITICAL JAVA HOLE | News: IDG News

Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine (JVM) has a "critical" flaw that can
let hackers see a Web surfer's information -- as the surfer passes
his/her info through a proxy server. Microsoft says SSL-protected
data would still be safe. The company has released a fix -- other
companies using JVMs will likely release fixes in the next few days.

SURVEY: COMPANIES LOSING GROUND IN VIRUS FIGHT | News: searchSecurity

A survey of 300 companies by ICSA Labs indicates that virus incidents
are on the rise inside corporations. Lost productivity is the biggest
casualty of the virus fight with the average company spending between
$100,000 and $1 million annually on desktop-related incidents. File
corruption and data loss is also on the rise.

MICROSOFT POLISHES WINDOWS FOR DATA CENTERS | News: IDG News

Windows .NET Server may be a few months down the pike, but Microsoft
has something to offer in the meantime. Windows Datacenter Server
Limited Edition (sounds like something with a leather interior and
heated seats) is shipping now through Microsoft's hardware partners.
If you get Datacenter Server LE, you'll get a free upgrade to Windows

SOLVE A PROBLEM & WIN A PRIZE | Bill Boswell's Admin Corner Puzzle

Tim was out of the office yesterday because of a cold, and during
that time, a group of corporate auditors did a security check on his
system. Tim made sure that they didn't disable the Guest account on
his stand-alone print server (something that happened the last time
that the auditors visited). But today, users are getting all sorts of
errors. Can you help Tim solve the problem?

HACKER CLAIMS WEB WORM MEANT TO COMBAT SEXISM | The Missing Link

Is this what the Spice Girls meant by "girl power"? A 17-year-old
Dutch girl, who claims to have bred the "Sharpei" worm to nip
Microsoft's .NET Web services platform, said she did it to show that
women can write viruses too. She told security firm Sophos that she
didn't want the worm to do any damage, but she did want it to spread
a message -- that cyberspace isn't just a man's world. I am woman,
hear me hack?
