LEAD STORY

SUN SUES MICROSOFT OVER JAVA | News: InternetNews

Sun's steam has turned to paper. The company has filed a one BILLION
dollar lawsuit against Microsoft. Sun is piping hot over the fact
that Windows XP does not support Java. That's one of the thrusts of
the suit, along with Microsoft's alleged monopolizing of the
Internet. Both companies settled a Java-related lawsuit last year for
$20 million, but evidently the issues didn't go away.

USERS SHARE THEIR SNMP WORRIES | News: SearchSecurity

SearchSecurity tapped its members for insight into how they are
dealing with the recently revealed vulnerabilities in the Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Most are heeding warnings from
CERT and other agencies to take the flaw seriously and are either
patching SNMP products or are using workarounds until migrating to a
safe version is possible. Microsoft has issued patches for Win2k, XP
and NT 4.0.

ONLINE PORN SITE SAID TO HAVE DUPED ARMY | The Missing Link

When the U.S. Army says, "be all you can be," they probably didn't
have this in mind. A computer specialist convinced the military to
pay for a T1 Internet line that he said they needed to communicate
with troops stationed in Bosnia. But this was allegedly a bunch of
Balkan baloney. Investigators say he really used the line to run a
for-profit sex show on the Web. Major mistake! The indictment says
the T1 cost the Army more than $100,000 between 1997 and 1998.
