While the dissenting states say they want Microsoft to behave, Redmond says if those states get their way, you'll see thousands of "mutant" operating systems out there. Microsoft says if it has to strip Windows and sell modular versions, that would mean more than 4,000 Windows editions would hit the market -- chaos. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci811212,00.html FOR MORE INFORMATION: Check out our deli case of antitrust case stories at http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/featuredTopic/0,290042,sid1_gci752708,00.html. _____________________________________________________________________ ********************************************************************* OTHER STORIES In addition to the headlines below, others are available on our news page. >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= USERS SEE BENEFITS, RISKS IN SUN VS. MS SUIT | News: Computerworld Sun's billion-dollar beef with Microsoft: It may drag on for years, but analysts say Sun could see benefits in a year if it gets a preliminary injunction that forces Microsoft to distribute its Java Virtual Machine with Windows XP. Sun also wants more access to Windows, but even if that attempt fails, McNealy and company won't be any worse off than they are now. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci811222,00.html RULING IN MS LAWSUIT CRACKS WINDOWS TRADEMARKS | News: Newsbytes Microsoft and a U.S. District judge are just like a married couple -- one wants the Windows closed, the other wants the Windows open. The judge ruled that Microsoft's trademark on the "Windows" name is tenuous since windows-related terms to describe graphical user interfaces have been around longer than Microsoft's product. Based in part on that idea, the judge has ruled Lindows, a company that makes software to run Windows programs on Linux, will keep running. Microsoft wanted the Lindows' Web site shut down while a trademark lawsuit is pending. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci811198,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ADDITIONAL SEARCHWIN2000 NEWS HEADLINES All headlines, including those below, are available on our news page >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news - SMS beta falls short, some testers say - Merger countdown: The day is at hand - Top 10 Web services tips _____________________________________________________________________ ********************* SPONSORED BY: CommVault *********************** COMMVAULT GALAXY IS FEATURED IN NEW MICROSOFT BEST PRACTICES GUIDE FOR WINDOWS 2000 DATA CENTER BACKUP AND RESTORE. Is it a big deal for an SMTP server to have a POP account associated with it? If so, then shouldn't the authentication be left up to the IT admin to authenticate the IP address from which the e-mail is coming? >>CLICK for Scott Schnoll's expert response... http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid1_cid456019_tax285117,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= BETTER THAN LETTERMAN TOP 10 LISTS | Quick Hit of the Day David Letterman isn't the only one who can have top 10 lists! Mouse clicking can get your love life clicking according to a British psychologist. He says cybercourting can truly lead to real love (or really lead to true love) because each person already knows the other pretty well before they meet face-to-face. That makes the transition from chat room to living room much easier and brings more depth to the relationship table. Another advantage to virtual mackin'? The psych says guys are more emotionally honest and open when they're online while women are more overtly sexual. Basically, guys and gals act abnormally honest over the Net.
