The .NET Framework platform software is barely out of the gate, but
the corresponding service pack is already ready already. The pack is
packing security fixes for a flaw that lets downloaded .NET code run
with elevated permissions. Issues with COM interoperability, type
libraries, and the .NET Common Language Runtime are also addressed.
You may download .NET Framework SP1 through the Windows update
function or via the Microsoft Web site.

MICROSOFT WARNS OF JAVA SECURITY HOLE IN WINDOWS | News: Reuters

And then there were two -- two vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Java
Virtual Machine code. The first flaw could let a nasty Java applet on
a Web site monitor a visitor's Web surfing. The second flaw lets a
nasty Java program run outside a restricted area on a users'
computer. Both Sun and MS have issued bulletins, saying the flaws are
critical and need to be patched. MS has issued a patch that caulks
both flaws.

MICROSOFT RELEASES NEW JAVA-RELATED TOOL | News: CNET

Sun won't be celebrating this news, but Microsoft has unleashed
another Java jumping tool. The second beta of Visual J# .NET is out
-- it's a tool that lets programmers use Java to build software that
works on .NET and only .NET. A final version is due in the middle of
the year. The tool is one of the stars of the billion-dollar lawsuit
Sun has filed against Microsoft. Sun says the tool taints Java.

HIGH COURT DENIES REVIEW OF BAN ON WEB URINE SALES | The Missing Link

This story is a wee bit interesting. The U.S. Supreme Court has
refused to hear a petition to change a South Carolina law that bans
the sale of urine to beat drug tests -- the court doesn't think the
case holds much water. A businessman in Greenville, who sold his own
pristine urine for $69 a pop over his Web site (complete with a
"warmer" to give the specimen the feel of authenticity), just
couldn't hold it. He challenged the law, claiming companies use
results to discriminate against pregnant women, people on certain
medications, or those genetically prone to certain diseases, not just
drug users. You could say he put the "pee" in "peeved." But evidently
his case isn't exactly the High Court's, um, No. 1 priority. South
Carolina has forbidden him to sell his "impeesters" in any state.
