The company is trying to show that the nine dissenting states are in bed with Microsoft's competitors, and that the competition is using the states as agents of revenge. What's wrong with that strategy? If stiffer sanctions help consumers by fostering competition, then the antitrust laws have done their job. Microsoft would be proving that stiffer penalties would be best for the market! Legal experts say MS needs to prove that the penalties won't help consumers. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci813461,00.html MS SECURITY PATCH FAILS TO WORK | News: The Register Remember that IE patch Microsoft rolled out last week? The Register says it doesn't work! The Brit IT pub. got several complaints from users and decided to test it themselves. They did a clean install of Windows XP, installed the Critical Security Update and then ran an example script that calls calc.exe against the machine. The patch didn't do anything. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci813483,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ADDITIONAL SEARCHWIN2000 NEWS HEADLINES All headlines, including those below, are available on our news page >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news - Pair of Office XP bugs uncovered - City office masters e-mail management - Bad Packets: Ballmer and Jobs -- The April 1 interview _____________________________________________________________________ ************ SPONSORED BY: Windows Decisions Conference ************* ONLY 5 WEEKS UNTIL OUR WINDOWS DECISIONS CONFERENCE! However, anyone with access to the room has access to the servers. So, if people in our networking group are in a meeting or unavailable, and one of the managers needs something changed, people in our programming department go in and make changes. Is there a way we can secure the servers enough so that non-network people can make some changes, but not critical changes? >>CLICK to read Mark Edmead's expert response... http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid1_cid455866_tax285120,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= USER GROUP LIMITATION | Quick Hit of the Day "I have heard that there is a limitation as to the number of groups that a user can belong to in Win2k. A researcher at Penn State University found that Internet search engines aren't chug-a-lugging toward the virtual Red Light District like they used to. Five years ago, nearly 17% of Excite searches were naughty in nature. But by May 2001, that figure fell to 8.5%. Over the same time period, travel, job hunting, and other less naked search topics nearly doubled. Is there more scorn for porn these days? Some experts say this study shows that more average Joes are online, and average Joes are less likely than average geeks to scope out sex on the Web. Still others say there are so many search engines now, it's tough to draw any conclusions. Filth is still hot, though. Searches for sex and pornography sites outnumbered those for education, government and the fine arts combined.
