LEAD STORY

BELLUZZO OUT AT MICROSOFT IN REORGANIZATION | News: CNET

Number 3 at Microsoft is leaving. Rick Belluzzo, the company's
president and chief operating officer will step down May 1st and
leave the company entirely in September. His exit marks a
reorganization in Redmond. Some analysts think his consumer strategy
wasn't working. Others think he had a personality conflict with other
managers. Either way, his departure shouldn't affect customers that
much -- Belluzzo was more involved in running the business than
development of products.

MICROSOFT REMEDY SHOULD ADDRESS .NET, AOL SAYS | News: Reuters

A VP with AOL has taken the stand in the remedy hearings, and he's
none too pleased with the state of the settlement. John Borthwick
said the deal on the table now will not only let Microsoft keep its
Windows monopoly, but it will also let the company dominate the Web
services market through the one-two punch of XP and .NET. Borthwick
is backing the dissenting states that want stiffer penalties.

COULD .NET MEAN THE RETURN OF RICH CLIENTS? | News: InternetWeek

The Web may have killed rich, locally-rendered client computers, but
analysts at Gartner believe the emergence of Microsoft's .NET
platform could mean the return of rich-client application
development. Gartner said it expects that by 2005, 60% of new .NET
applications will be designed with rich clients in mind.

BUZZ PHRASES THAT DESERVE THE DUST BIN | The Missing Link

ITspeak has got to be among the many things that make you go "ugh."
Everyone's heard it -- a language of buzz phrases that PR people and
industry geeks speak. It's a tongue so unspeakable it can turn normal
people into human press releases. Now, finally, the cliches of
computerdom are getting the dissing they deserve! The Mercury News
asked readers which shards of IT jargon annoyed them the most.
Drumroll please: "24x7," "leverage," "solution," "shift the
paradigm," "grow the business," "outside the box" and "best of breed"
all made the "most hated" list. Maybe these terms could go live in
exile somewhere and take "functionality," "scalability," and "ramping
up" with them!
