LEAD STORY

MICROSOFT OFFERS FREE TOOL FOR SECURITY CHECKS | News: IDG News

The newest resident of Microsoft's developer Web site is a real tool.
Baseline Security Analyzer ferrets out holes hidden within Windows,
tells what security patches are needed and red flags configuration
flaws. It doesn't do any actual fixing -- it just scans and tattles.
It's free and works with Win2k, NT 4.0, XP, IIS 4.0 and 5.0, SQL
Server 7.0 and 2000, Internet Explorer 5.01 and later, and Office
2000 and XP.

makes it easier to block mass e-mail, forwards, jokes and hoaxes.
GroupShield for Exchange 5.5 works with Exchange 5.5 Service Pack 3
or higher, running on Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 Server.

DISCUSSION DAY IN THE FORUMS | Mark Edmead, security expert

Steganography: Another way to hide data

Who: Mark Edmead, SearchSystemsManagement expert
When: Tomorrow, April 10, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. EDT

In the past year or so, you may have noticed an increased interest in
steganography (also called stego). After the Sept. 11 attacks,
there were news reports that the terrorists used it to hide their
attack plans, maps and activities in chat rooms, bulletin boards and
Web sites.

Are there practical uses for this technology? How can you defeat it?
Mark can answer those questions and more.

ELECTROLUX INTRODUCES TALKING WASHING MACHINE | The Missing Link

Get a load of this! Electrolux is putting a new spin on cleaning
clothes. It's introduced what it claims is the world's first talking
washing machine. Available only in India, the Washy Talky steps in
when common sense doesn't quite wash. It spits out commands like
"drop detergent, close lid and relax." Will it wash with Indian
consumers? Electrolux was apparently awash in demand for the
technology and expects to really clean up.
