There's another sheriff in Redmond, Wash. Bill Veghte, corporate VP

MICROSOFT TO MAKE ITS CASE | News: CNET

The focus of the Microsoft antitrust will shift this week as
Microsoft starts presenting its side. Onlookers are still debating
whether Chairman Bill Gates and CEO Steve Ballmer will testify. They
may not have to as Microsoft plans to ask the judge to dismiss the
case, arguing the plaintiffs hadn't proved a broad remedy is needed.

HOW MICROSOFT CONQUERED WASHINGTON | News: Fortune

Microsoft has joined the ranks of Philip Morris, Lockheed Martin and
AT&T. That's right. Microsoft now has similar lobbying muscle in
Washington that such financial giants have. Redmond has come a long
way from the mid-90's when the company had just one lobbyist.

MICROSOFT RETHINKS OPEN SOURCE | News: The Associated Press

Microsoft's Steve Ballmer once likened open source Linux to a cancer
growing on intellectual property. Now, Redmond is softening its
stance -- a little. Microsoft allows big customers and some technical
experts access to the Windows source code, but it doesn't plan to
open up the source code to a general audience anytime soon.

JUST ANOTHER TALIB ON THE IRC | The Missing Link

The former leaders of Afghanistan might want to reconsider their
decision to ban the use of the Internet. A Pakistani computer
programmer took it upon himself to design a version of the popular
IRC online chat medium aimed directly at members of the Taliban. The
program offers tools for the everyday zealot like canned "facts"
about Jihad and the Taliban for posting in chat rooms. It even
features a photo of American defector John Walker Lindh. Isn't this
why someone invented computer viruses?
