LEAD STORY

GATES TO TAKE STAND IN ANTITRUST TRIAL | News: Reuters

The seventh hitter in the testimony lineup for Microsoft? Some guy
named Gates. The chairman takes the stand today in the remedy
hearings -- he's expected to tell the judge how the sanctions
proposed by the nine dissenting states could hurt the industry and
consumers. Gates testified on tape in 1998. That didn't go over too
well. This time around, his "live" testimony could make or break
Microsoft's case.

FEDS CRACK BOOTLEGGING CELL, ARREST 27 | News: vnunet

Some possible Long John Silvers of the Internet Age are off the
cyberseas thanks to the FBI. Agents say they've broken up a Silicon
Valley-based software piracy ring and arrested 27 bootleggin'
buccaneers. The alleged pirates were copying popular packages like
Office 2000, Adobe Photoshop and Symantec antivirus software and
selling the booty over the Internet.

KLEZ VARIANT ISN'T SLOWING DOWN | News: SearchSecurity

Klez-G, the latest version of the nasty Klez worm, continues to
infect computers worldwide. Though its payload isn't destructive, the
worm does have the capability to steal data, including sensitive
documents. It also taps text files, cached Web pages and PDFs -- in
addition to the Outlook address book -- looking for e-mail addresses.

MICROSOFT SECURITY TOOL LEAVES HOLES | News: eWEEK

Is your Windows Update getting the job done? Given the fact that
Microsoft has at least four ways to install patches, the resulting
complexities could make patches compete with each other, override
each other, make your updates useless or misleading, and leave your
systems vulnerable. One Microsoft official says the company is
working to make all the security tools play nice together.

RAREST OF RARE APPLES FOR SALE | The Missing Link

How about this Apple! A rare Apple I computer has fallen from the
tree and is going on the auction block. A long time ago in a garage
far, far away, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs handcrafted some 200 of
the no-frills machines. Apple I turned into the core of Apple
Computer and essentially helped launch the company and the PC
revolution. There are only about 50 of these historic machines in
existence today, so hardcore Apple fans will have to do more than bob
to get this one. It's expected to go for $15,000 to $20,000.
