Billionaire Bill has put his two cents in on the remedy proposed by the nine dissenting states. He took the stand Monday, and told the court that stripping Windows, like the nine states want, would split the OS into a bunch of different versions, creating incompatibilities galore and setting back the computer industry. Gates is expected to testify through Wednesday. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci818905,00.html MORE ON THIS TOPIC: Read more about the antitrust trial, and where it could lead at http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid1_gci816364,00.html. _____________________________________________________________________ ********************************************************************* OTHER STORIES In addition to the headlines below, others are available on our news page. >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= GATES PUTS ON NEW FACE FOR TESTIMONY | News: CNET Is Bill on his best behavior? Court watchers say Bill Gates, so far anyway, has been cordial on the stand, even laughing and joking where appropriate. He's also been in command of the facts (at least the facts according to Microsoft). This is a far cry from the taped deposition he gave in 1998, where he appeared confused and evasive. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci818916,00.html CISCO SECURITY FLAW "MICROSOFT'S FAULT" | News: vnunet Cisco admits that if it's in bed with Microsoft, it must be able to "take the rough with the smooth." When it comes to IIS, it's rough. Security problems with the software, which were revealed earlier this month, have sullied Cisco's stuff, including Cisco CallManager 3.0, E-mail Manager and Intelligent Contact Manager. Cisco is offering free software updates to fix the flaws. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci818932,00.html CRITICS SAY MS PATCH DOWNLOAD SITE HAS FAULTS | News: Computerworld Bugtraq moderator Russ Cooper is advising users to stop using Windows Update for patch downloads because it is unreliable. Windows Update is supposed to give users a quick way to find and download patches, but Cooper said the site has a few quirks that could be dangerous. He said the site informs users they're patched when they aren't, or asks administrators to patch systems that have been patched already. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci818607,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ADDITIONAL SEARCHWIN2000 NEWS HEADLINES More headlines, including those below, are available on our news page >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news - Old viruses never really go away - Microsoft accuses industry of Web services hype - Web services to dominate in the future _____________________________________________________________________ ******************* SPONSORED BY: BMC Software ********************** ***Free tool now available from BMC Software*** Ensure the greatest availability of your Windows NT and Windows 2000 applications. You can't even yodel these days without getting a lawyer involved. You know the guy who yodels "YaHOOOOooo" at the end of Yahoo's TV commercials (like the one where the shivering Siberian surfs for a spa)? Wylie Gustafson recorded that "Raising Arizona"-style holler six years ago for $590. Well, he was suing instead of yahooing. He said the Yahoo yodel was supposed to be a one-time deal, and he wanted $5 million for the use of his voice. Now comes word that the suit has been settled, though it's unclear how much Gustafson will get. Hopefully the people who harmonized at the end of the Expedia.com commercial are getting their share -- because that's one fine piece of vocalizing.
