HACKER FINDS FAULT IN .NET SECURITY | News: CNET

.NET has gotten high marks from hacker and Digital Defense security
analyst H.D. Moore. He said this week that ASP.NET has the potential
to wipe out some of the flaws that dog Microsoft today. But Moore
also said the server software is still flawed, largely because
developers aren't being taught properly. Moore specified that five
ASP.NET books don't mention at least one of several common .NET
security problems. And what they don't know could hurt them.

MICROSOFT REACHES OUT TO JAVA DEVELOPERS | News: InfoWorld

The drawbridge from Castle Redmond has come down to span the moat
between it and Java developers. That's a silly and rather medieval
way to say Microsoft has put out a JDBC driver that lets Java
developers work with SQL Server 2000. It's a freebie for licensed SQL
Server users and runs on Win2k with Service Pack 2 or higher, XP,
Solaris, HP-UX, AIX and Linux.

RESEARCHERS GIVE ROBOTIC UPGRADE TO LOWLY RATS | The Missing Link

Remember when "The Rescuers" was just an animated movie? Rescuer rats
are no longer furry, scaly-tailed figments of Disney's imagination.
Scientists have wired up rats' brains and turned them into
"rodentbots," so to speak. Using tiny video cameras to "see" and a
laptop to send radio signals, scientists can "steer" the rats with
stimuli. Hitting the J key makes them scurry left, L makes them dart
right and K sends the reward -- a shot of euphoria to the brain's
pleasure center. No, this will not be the next hot pet/toy in Japan.
Scientists hope to put the high-tech vermin to work inspecting
disaster areas.
