LEAD STORY
Can IIS 6.0 take the heat?  (SearchWin2000)
Microsoft's IIS 5.0 was some fine dining for worms. The company needed to make the next version less tantalizing to intruders, and more appealing to customers. Microsoft in deal with Softricity to extend enterprise apps as XML Web services (CRN)
Microsoft is going to toot Softricity's horn. MS announced it will push Softricity's SoftGrid platform, which lets customers turn their current Windows applications into XML Web services. SoftGrid's integration with SQL Server and BizTalk should give administrators realtime data about application performance and usage, according to Microsoft.

QUICK HIT OF THE DAY
Oops! True IT blooper #34: It's a bad thing
Using Martha Stewart's lingo, one could say that using Windows 2000 and Terminal Services to administer servers is "a good thing." No matter how you say it, however, "when used unwisely, terminal services can be a bad thing," according to system administrator Joe Keegan.

THE MISSING LINK
Traffic to M&M Web site skyrockets 145%

The Web proved that voter apathy does not exist in the Republic of Candyland. The recent "election" of the newest M&M color brought more than 330,000 sweet-toothed surfers to the M&M Mars Web site -- that's a heckuva lot more than the week before (137,000 visitors). So what color won? Purple reigned.
