Roberta Bragg helps you figure out where you stand in this special for SearchWin2000.

NEWS
Evolving viruses threat to many platforms (CNET)
You may never hear or see the Simile.D virus, but it may change the way viruses are written and defended against. The virus can alter its size, making it harder to detect. It also spreads to Windows and Linux platforms. Antivirus companies are watching this one carefully, because AV software will have to work harder to ID these types of malicious code and could bog down system or network performance.

QUICK HIT OF THE DAY
True IT blooper #37: The ZAP
You know an IT mistake is monumental when it or its perpetrator is given a name. For example, the coffee spill that shorts out a server is called The Java Jolt. The bench tech who ignites a PC is nicknamed Kazam. Those familiar with this "true IT blooper" now refer to as The ZAP Incident.

THE MISSING LINK
Killer wires spilt my tea

Coffee and tea may get you wired, but wire can get your coffee and tea. A survey released by none other than Microsoft found that one in 10 office workers blamed the maze of wires and cables around their desks for making them spill their drinks. That's more than five million cups of splattered tea every week in the U.K. The average desk is tied up by nearly 50 feet of wiring -- enough to mug a mug, steal its contents and throw it on the ground. None of the people polled confessed to being a cubicle klutz. Before you say aloud, "Someone in Redmond got paid to do this?," consider this -- Microsoft is coming out with a wireless keyboard. Hmmm.
