LEAD STORY
Old code in Windows is security threat  (CNET)
Wine may get better with age, but evidently software code does not. Microsoft plans to put the kibosh on old code with greater haste, even if compatibility is compromised. Old code most recently helped create a crack in Internet Explorer.

QUICK HIT OF THE DAY
Keep AD neat and tidy
Like NFTS, DNS and every other data storage mechanism within Windows 2000, the Active Directory database becomes untidy over time. And while Windows 2000 has several built-in mechanisms to help maintain the health of this mission-critical database, it isn't foolproof and doesn't address every issue.

Dear Expert,
How should I prepare for the MCSE 2000 track exams? I am taking the prep for this test from an institution authorized by Microsoft. But I still don't know the best way to approach taking the actual tests.

THE MISSING LINK
Indian boy in Gaza earns Microsoft certificate

If you're sweating over earning your Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certificate, keep this in mind: It's child's play! A 7-year-old boy in the Gaza Strip made mincemeat out of the MOUS, passing with flying colors and earning a certificate usually reserved for taller, older grownups. Evidently a certificate for learning multiplication tables wasn't enough for Anudeep Bhaskar. Not only did he master the Microsoft material, he overcame the hostile nature of his surroundings. Because of Israeli air strikes, the electricity was knocked out for long periods, so Anudeep couldn't even get on his computer much of the time. No word what he'll do with his MOUS -- maybe he'll skip third grade and go directly to the pros.
