Sun's "Big Bear" Linux server to appear in August (IDG News)
Sun unleashes the Big Bear in about two months. That's the code name for Sun's Linux server -- you can see it in its cage this August at LinuxWorld. Sun hopes Big Bear's dual-processor system that runs Intel chips will be just right. Its official name will be Cobalt LX50.

States: Windows must be open (Reuters)
What do the nine dissenting states want more than anything from Microsoft? Open Windows would cool them off. The states said in court Wednesday that an open code that would allow rival software to work with Windows is what they want most from these remedy hearings. Microsoft said the states' request is "flawed," and they're not budging on their position.

Pets.com puppet comes back from the dead

The last time most folks saw the Pets.com sock puppet he was on Conan O'Brien's show. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was, um, showing the audience which dog was boss. Poor thing has been the "scapedog" of the whole dot-com meltdown! But the puppet, who tucked his tail and retreated to the doghouse after the Pets.com penthouse came crashing down in 2000, has wiped the dot-com fallout off his nose and is making a comeback. He's the mascot of an American car loan firm that markets loans to people with bad credit. "Everyone deserves a second chance," he woofs (Registration is required to read the full story.)
