NEWS
ADvantage toolkit ready for AD users (Network World)
Javelina -- it's not just a wild pig native to North America. It's also a software company, and it has released a toolkit to help streamline and automate Active Directory administration. ADvantage, as it's called, is client software that allows batch processing and lets users pull information from the directory. ADvantage costs $500 per administrator, but after Dec. 31, that price will double.

Microsoft certification: What's it worth?
In these days of tight budgets, it's increasingly difficult to get budget approval for even absolute and critical necessities. So how does a network administrator, IT manager or chief technology officer cost-justify the time and expense involved in training and retraining staff on current and future technology. That's the topic we tackle in this week's edition of Win2000Talk.

THE MISSING LINK
China gags Google

Blocked in Beijing, shunned in Shanghai -- there is no "googling" in China. The government has evidently pulled the search engine off the tracks. It seems the politicians don't care for the content Google pulls up, particularly pornography, anything associated with the banned spiritual movement Falun Gong and information believed to be a threat to national security. So the government has thrown up some kind of great firewall to keep Google out. But there is a workaround. Chinese surfers can hop on Yahoo, which is still available and uses Google for searches.
