First patch batch ready for Windows flaw (Network World)
Microsoft has posted the first batches of patches for the cryptography software flaws in Windows -- this is the flaw that could let hackers create bogus digital signatures and certificates. The patches available right now are for Windows NT 4.0 and XP -- the Win2k patch isn't ready yet. The patches are considered critical.

Microsoft exec: "There's no end" to security problems (IDG News)
Microsoft's senior vice president in charge of Windows development isn't too proud of his company's security record. Brian Valentine told a group of developers, "We really haven't done everything we could to protect our customers. Our products just aren't engineered for security." Here's a frustrating jolt of reality -- Valentine also said, "As we solve these problems, there are hackers who are going to come up with new ones. There's no end to this."
