XP Service Pack 1 is at your service. This is what Microsoft calls a "true service pack" -- it's the first offering of the Trustworthy Computing era and has all of the security fixes released to Windows Update since last October. It also reflects concessions to the proposed antitrust settlement. Windows XP users can download SP1 through Windows Update, while admins can snag it off the Microsoft Web site.

"Idol" Web site hardly idle
;)
Talk about idol worship! That TV show "American Idol" is the biggest thing since Billy Idol, and it has the Web traffic to prove it. On the night of the show's finale last week, more than 23 million viewers tuned in and 308,000 visitors clicked in. The latter figure may not sound like much, but eight days before the finale only 82,000 Web visitors surfed the site. Of course, the site offered something the tube couldn't -- a chance to chat with the winner, Kelly Clarkson.
