Microsoft backs off licensing condition (CRN)
If you think Microsoft has turned a deaf ear when it comes to licensing, consider this: Release Candidate 2 of the .NET Server 2003 beta will lose the licensing condition that limits the standard server SKU to uniprocessor machines. It will be made available in SKUs similar to the current Windows 2000 Server.

Win2k server attacks: Your fault? (CNET)
Microsoft thinks it has solved the mystery of the hacked Win2k servers: It's your fault! The company has concluded that hackers are exploiting servers that are unprotected and that there is no new flaw or flaws behind the rash of attacks. According to the latest advisory, "weak or blank administrator passwords" are the weak links.

Does certification still make sense?
An MCSE cert. can't hurt your resume, but IT pros that do the hiring say don't let it be the only egg in your job-hunting basket. Without experience, it may be just another piece of paper. With experience, it may be good as gold.

WIN2000TALK RADIO
Microsoft certification -- what's it worth?
In these days of tight budgets, it's increasingly difficult to get budget approval for even absolute and critical necessities. So how does a network administrator, IT manager or chief technology officer cost-justify the time and expense involved in training and retraining staff on current and future technology. That's the topic we tackle in this edition of Win2000Talk.

THE MISSING LINK
Mom, where did you put Merlin and Zork? Old games get new life on eBay

Got software that's as dated as one of George Hamilton's leisure suits? Excellent -- because vintage is good! One guy who's been collecting (hoarding) software for 20 years is blowing the dust off 250,000 titles and putting them up for auction on eBay. More than half of his apps came out before 1990, and many of them are games that were designed for Apple II, Amiga, Atari, Commodore 64, CP/M, Macs and other classic machines. Getting misty yet? Most of this rare software is in its original packaging and will be up for bid through Sept. 17.
