Novell hopes to cash in on Licensing 6.0 controversy (CNET)
Novell is turning ire into opportunity. The company took out a huge ad in The Wall Street Journal and took aim at Microsoft Licensing 6.0. Novell's ad said the plan "only benefits their [Microsoft's] bottom line -- and not yours." Novell hopes to cash in on the controversy and sell more of its own, recently re-priced software and services.

Office Wars: Sun to give away more StarOffice (CNET)
More and more of the planet is revolving around Sun's StarOffice. The company plans to donate the office software to ministries of education in Europe and Africa. Sun claims the deal's dollar value is around $5.7 billion. But Sun considers taking a bite out of Microsoft Office to be worth every penny.

Go ahead -- say "dot-com." It's okay! The "dot-com" may be returning to respectability. One analyst says "dot-com," which for a couple of years now has been a scourge among suffixes, isn't as doused in disses as it used to be. That's mainly because companies are more careful how they use the term. These days firms aren't so hip to hop on the bandwagon; they add "dot-com" where they see fit and not just to be trendy and cool.
