SQL Server SP3 to ship next month (CRN)
Here's some skinny on SP3 for SQL Server -- Microsoft is buffing and polishing it for an October release. It will pack fixes from the first two service packs with an emphasis on security and "serviceability" improvements. It will also bear the Watson technology, which provides near real-time problem reports and feedback to Microsoft's support and quality assurance departments.
NEWS
Microsoft advises Australia (ZDNet)
Microsoft is helping the Australian government batten down the Windows by serving as an advisor on cyber security matters. While government officials say it's important for MS to be onboard, some security experts Down Under say Canberra's own cybercops are plenty capable and don't need Microsoft's help. Other critics say the country shouldn't have for-profit vendors serving as advisors -- especially vendors with a history of patchy security.

QUICK HIT OF THE DAY
Recover hard-deleted items
"Hard deleting" an item in Exchange 5.5 parlance means to delete something before moving it to the Deleted Items folder. When an item is moved to the Deleted Items folder, it can be easily recovered from there before the folder is emptied. But once the folder is emptied, those messages are generally gone for good. Here's how to get them back.

THE MISSING LINK
Positively Kmart
;)
If you've ever sat in your chair and wondered "What can I do to support Kmart?" then there's a great Web site for you. The rattled retailer is sick and tired of being discounted by all the anti-Kmart sentiments on the Web. So it has launched a new site, and hopefully you're sitting down for this: Kmartforever.com. It's a place where the only news is good news -- any Kbashing gets the kibosh. And don't even think about dissing Martha Stewart there. You may post upbeat Kmart stories, read how to write a pro-Kmart letter to the editor or just bask in the blue light of love. So far, two dozen messages have gone up. By comparison, an anti-store site has seen more than 7,000 Kdisses go live!
