LEAD STORY
Battening Windows: Service packs do not violate privacy laws  (SearchWin2000.com)

Liberty Alliance announces Passport support (IDG News)
Passport and Liberty -- you won't have to "separate those two." The Liberty Alliance Project plans to make its single sign-on authentication engine technology interoperable with its rival from Microsoft. Liberty Alliance members doubt Microsoft will extend the same courtesy to its Passport users.

Microsoft puts more bait on Exchange hook (CRN)
Microsoft is trying to lure Lotus users over to Exchange server software by offering a set of tools designed to let organizations assess the applications they have built for the Notes platform. THE MISSING LINK
Coffee talks, pain walks

Next time the system crashes or someone opens an e-mail attachment from a guy named Klez, run to the coffee machine. "Joe" will ease your pain. Researchers in London found that a nice jolt of java raises blood pressure to a point where it kills pain. But there's a catch -- caffeine seems a little sexist. The study showed the painkilling prowess of coffee to be more profoundly pronounced in women. So while ladies self-medicate with Maxwell House, guys will just have to continue pulling their hair out.
