Microsoft hopes to send an instant message to AOL: "You've got competition!" MS will make available by Q1 of 2003, MSN Messenger Connect for Enterprises. That's enterprise IM that sports more security and more message-management features. MS is a "johnny come lately" to this market, following AOL and Yahoo. The MSN Messenger will be a bone for users until the more ambitious "Greenwich" is ready later in 2003.

ASK LAURA HUNTER
Can I hide the admin account and track users?
Dear Laura:
I would like to create user accounts with admin access, but I don't want the users to mess up the real administrator account. Is there a way to hide the administrator account, so it's not visible to other users, even though they have admin rights? Also, I would like to know if there is a built-in tool in Windows 2000 that can track the user history (i.e., what exactly they are doing on the server).

THE MISSING LINK
Slow modem slow-cooked Wisconsin style

You've heard of road rage, but there's another breed of ire out there -- modem malice. And when one man felt it, he got fired up and took matters into his own hands. Or in this case, his own barbecue tongs. Don't try this at home.
