QUICK HIT OF THE DAY
Relocate a .PST file
When you upgrade software for one of your users, or replace a hard drive on a user's workstation, you first have to back up all necessary data. When you do that, make sure you don't forget the ever-popular .PST file.
ASK SERDAR YEGULALP
Increasing inbound workstation connections
Dear Serdar:
I want a new machine with a large hard disk running with OEM-XP Pro to act as a fileserver, but of course, it cannot accept more than 10 inbound connections. We need about 20. Is there any way to increase the maximum number of inbound connections on Win NT/Win2k/XP workstations? Or is there any trick to fool these workstations to accept more than 10?

Laptops not to be taken literally -- or else
![]()
Desktop computers may belong on a desk, but laptops do not belong on a lap. Just ask a 50-year-old scientist in England whose lap mishap became the subject of an article in the medical journal The Lancet. While writing a report, he left his laptop on his lap for an hour or so. Yes, he was wearing pants. The next day, his lap -- as well as some very sensitive areas -- proved to be badly burned and infected. Fortunately, he's OK. The lapse in laptop judgment cost him some comfort, and he maybe had a red face to go with his red lap -- but that's about it. This story is proof that you should not only protect your computer, you should protect yourself from your computer, too.
