Microsoft tweaks .NET Server licensing (CNET)
A second release candidate of Windows .NET Server 2003 is due sometime this week, and to celebrate, Microsoft has announced some licensing changes. When the final product is ready in April, businesses will have the option of buying client-access licenses (CALs) per user, as opposed to just per machine. One Gartner analyst said this is a good deal for people on the move.

Win2k wins a round in TCO bout (CRN)
A round in the Windows versus Linux TCO bout has gone to Microsoft. An IDC study, co-sponsored by Microsoft, has proclaimed that the Windows 2000 Server operating system has a total cost of ownership advantage over Linux when it comes to certain server tasks including network infrastructure, print serving, file serving and security applications. The IDC study showed Linux with the advantage when it came to Web serving.
