LEAD STORY
Microsoft in spotlight over Borland swoop  (Computerwire)
Could Microsoft be considering an acquisition of Borland as well as Rational Software? Borland itself recently bought TogetherSoft SA, a design and modeling specialist, and such a deal would give Microsoft access to those resources. IBM recently proposed an acquisition for Rational, but Microsoft may be preparing a counter bid.

Microsoft upgrades flaw to "critical" (CNET)
Microsoft has upped its estimation of a recently discovered flaw from "important" to "critical" following a more in-depth analysis written by the researchers who found the flaw. The first thought was that the flaw would make Internet Explorer fail. On closer inspection, the flaw can actually allow malicious programs to run on the victim's system.

ASK PAUL HINSBERG
Setting up an internal DNS server
Dear Paul:
I have three Windows 2000 workgroup servers that will be in the domain. I am going to convert to Active Directory and need to set up DNS. The fourth server is a Web server (has DNS installed) that sits off the DMZ (de-militarized zone) and is named CompanyName.net. When I set up the internal DNS and Active Directory, should I use the same domain name with server name "ServerName.CompanyName.net," or should I create another domain for the internal network? Is there anything special to watch out for in DCPROMO? I am assuming that I need to have DNS set up first, then run DCPROMO.
