ASK SERDAR YEGULALP
Why does my WinXP Pro machine boot so slowly?
Dear Serdar:
I am a programmer and just received a new Windows XP Professional PC. It seems to take a long time to boot up -- around three minutes. I only see the message "Loading personal settings." After it boots, everything is fine and running extremely well. Is there something that our network administrators can do to correct this problem?

THE MISSING LINK
E-panhandlers make Net gains

Hang onto your wallet! The indigent, indebted and incredibly audacious are turning the World Wide Web into the World Wide beg. Cyberbegging sites now belong to everyone from an aspiring opera singer to a woman who can't imagine a world where "someone as talented as me was forced to work." And the clicks in all those cyberpails are adding up. One woman managed to dig herself out of $20,000 in credit card debt and parlay her site into a book deal. The moral of her story? It's amazing what you can net off the Net just by asking.
