Sometimes an admin or user will delete a folder that has an active file share on it, and ignore the warning that Windows provides when this is done. Not only does this log an error, under some conditions the share itself isn't removed. >> CLICK for the full tip... http://www.searchWin2000.com/tip/1,289483,sid1_gci875279,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= PUSH PRINTERS TO WIN2K CLIENTS USING GROUP POLICY | by Randy Lyman You might not want absolutely everyone on your network to have access to the same printers. If you're printing to a remote or networked printer, the spooler service on the machine to which the remote printer is attached will handle the job. (He also tells me the default ARP cache size on Windows server is much larger.) Can you tell me how to increase the ARP cache size in various desktop versions of Windows? I've searched Microsoft's site but have not been able to find an answer. >> CLICK here for Honeycutt's expert answer... http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid1_cid510743_tax293054,00.html For more expert advice, sign up to receive SearchWin2000.com's "Tips from our experts" biweekly newsletter. Despite Win2k's graphical shell, there are many administrators who are more comfortable with a command line. They would rather bang a few keys to get their favorite programs to come up, rather than navigate through a nest of menus and submenus. The easiest way to accomplish this is to: a. Place shortcuts to your favorite executables on your desktop b. Edit your process configurations in the task manager c. Store commonly used program paths in the registry d. Configure Windows "hotkeys" in the Control Panel e. NT USERS CONSIDER THEIR OPTIONS | Article NT 4.0 reaches the end of its lifespan July 1, 2003, at which time Microsoft will no longer offer free support for the operating system. That leaves NT-based organizations with three options: 1) remain on NT 4.0 and risk higher service fees, 2) choose to migrate to Microsoft's Windows 2000 Server, a 3-year-old operating system, or 3) take the risk of upgrading to brand new code by installing the next release of Windows, Windows Server 2003. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid1_gci874994,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= G'BYE EXCHANGE 5.5.
