LEAD STORY
Tiny toolmaker saves big money for Windows admins  (SearchWin2000.com)
You can pay a mint for tools that monitor your Windows servers. But at least one small software company offers products that are far less "minty" and still deliver the goods. One caveat, though: this little "diamond in the rough" company is hiking its prices but supposedly for your own good.

NEWS
Assigning blame for Slammer misguided (SearchSecurity.com)
Slice up the blame pie for the outbreak of the Slammer worm in several pieces. Give Microsoft its share, as well as SQL administrators. And be sure not to forget enterprise management and, of course, the author of the worm.

NEWS
Experts slam Trustworthy Computing (Reuters)
Security experts have gotten out their red pens to grade Trustworthy Computing, and it isn't pretty. One of those experts, with TrueSecure Corp., has given Microsoft an "F." Some other security experts think MS had a lot of nerve blaming the Slammer outbreak on customers who had not patched their SQL Servers -- when MS had not patched its own servers.

ASK SCOTT SCHNOLL
Mail to former employees' mailboxes
Dear Scott:
I had employees leave the MyCompany.com domain. I removed their mailboxes. Now, the system administrator gets tons of unwanted junk mail that is being sent to a mailbox that has been removed. Is there a place where I can add the e-mail addresses that are no longer part of my domain, like a mailbox address I have deleted now?

THE MISSING LINK
Oslo faux pas: Lawmaker caught gaming on the job

The specter of war in Iraq -- the debate has raged across the globe as nations ponder the costs, financial and otherwise, of another war in the Persian Gulf. But hey, why get too caught up in all that serious stuff when there's a new computer game that needs playing? A member of Norway's parliament was playing a war game on his handheld PC (with the sound muted) while his parliamentary peers debated whether their nation should get involved in the real thing. The lackadaisical lawmaker has apologized profusely; there was no denying the game-playing because a TV camera caught him red-handed. At least he wasn't sleeping. By the way, the Norwegian word for "busted" is "fallert."
