STOP THOSE UNWANTED MESSAGES | by Adesh Rampat

No doubt about it, spam is getting worse. One thing we can do is
apply the appropriate filters at the Outlook client or Exchange
server. The former means you'd have to apply the filters throughout
your organization, which is a time-consuming process. The latter is
quicker, but applies a blanket policy on your e-mail domain. You have
to choose which approach is best suited for your organization's
needs.

TUNE YOUR EXCHANGE SERVER | by Curt Aubley

An Exchange administrator needed a single server to support 2,000
concurrent Outlook mail users, and he needed to keep the average
response time in the subsecond range. Using new configurations, and
some third-party software, he was able to tune his network and
increase its response time significantly.

WHEN TO RUN EXCHANGE 5.5 PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZER | by Adesh Rampat

With Exchange 5.5, you would normally run Performance Optimizer
during the last phase of an installation. After this is done
Performance Optimizer is rarely heard of again. As we know,
Performance Optimizer allows you to configure the Exchange Server
memory usage, resource allocation, public information store options,
and database paths. Resources for both the Exchange Server system's
hardware and user-configured options are automatically configured,
therefore, apart from running an offline defrag, it is recommended
running the Performance Optimizer for the following circumstances.

WHAT ARE SOME SMTP SECURITY ISSUES? | Ask Scott Schnoll

Dear Scott:
I have received many requests for allowing additional machines to
perform SMTP relay using the data center's MS Exchange SMTP server. I
am concerned about security, as some of these requested machines are
not within our data center. What are some of the major security
issues and what can I do about them?
