As you probably suspect by now, configuring it is all a part of the work you do with Active Directory, and it's easier than you might have thought. In fact, it's all a part of setting up the appropriate GPOs. >>Click here for the full tip: http://www.searchWin2000.com/tip/1,289483,sid1_gci886160,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MANAGE ERROR REPORTING | by James Michael Stewart Microsoft has built into Windows 2000, XP and .NET a mechanism by which problems with the OS and installed software are reported back to Microsoft. This information is used to develop patches and hotfixes to improve the functionality of these OSes. However, depending on your environment, you may not want this mechanism to operate outside of your control. Fortunately, there are several controls within group policy to manage this feature. >>Click here for the full tip: http://www.searchWin2000.com/tip/1,289483,sid1_gci863907,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= GIVE USERS POWER TO UPDATE PERSONAL INFO IN AD | by Brien M. Posey Although the user information found in the Active Directory is definitely a handy reference, it's a big job to keep it up to date. Any time a user moves to another address, changes departments, changes phone numbers, etc., there's a good chance that the Active Directory won't get updated to reflect the change. One way to keep the Active Directory current is to give the users power to update their own information. This is where the Global Address Modify Tool comes into play. >>Click here for the full tip: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid1_gci885512,00.html?FromTaxonomy=/pr/286434 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= WINDOWS 95/98 CLIENTS RANDOMLY LOCKED OUT OF AD | Ask Laura Hunter Dear Laura: We have just completed a migration from NT4 to Windows 2000 AD /SingleForest /Single Domain (still mixed mode but without NT servers). At the moment we have not yet defined global policies in the SAM database, and there are no user-specific policies for user accounts. My problem is that Win95/98 users are being locked out randomly, for which I have to reset the account. My only guess is that somehow the PCs' registries are remembering previous policies applied under the NT4 domain. Is there any way to reset them or avoid the continuous lockouts? >>Click here for Hunter's expert response: http://www.searchWindowsManageability.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid33_cid520234_tax292494,00.html Want more tips like this one?
