New critical IIS buffer flaw exploited (SearchSecurity.com)
Microsoft issued a security alert Monday advising users to patch a critical vulnerability in IIS 5.0 running on Windows 2000. The flaw, a buffer overflow in the WebDAV utility that allows for remote management and monitoring of Web content, has already been exploited by attackers. Security experts fear a new worm could follow that exploits the flaw on a bigger scale.

Microsoft retools enterprise management (CNET)
At the Microsoft Management Summit today, the software maker is expected to release information about a new management platform called System Center. The product will combine features from Systems Management Server 2003 and Microsoft Operations Manager 2004. System Center is slated for release next year.

a. Enter Windows safe mode at startup and assign a new driver
b. Have Windows attempt to detect a more recent driver

d. Use Windows' auto-update feature to recover the proper driver
e. Forget the driver and try a three-wood

Sex sells for IT pros

IT people are total nerds? Actually, a new study shows that tech types are more like Kid Rock than Doctor Who. IT people are the most likely bunch to talk dirty over a business lunch. In fact, 11% of those surveyed said that they do some of their best networking in strip clubs. A lot of those places have cheap buffets, after all. Still, wouldn't you love to see their expense reports? Do their Excel worksheets have drop-down boxes for table dances? A pizza restaurant chain in the U.K. paid for the study.
