LEAD STORY
Multiple Windows 2000 WebDAV exploits made public  (SearchSecurity.com)
As many as five different pieces of exploit code for recently announced vulnerabilities in Windows 2000 have been made public on security mailing lists. Windows administrators are urged to patch their systems because workarounds may not be enough, experts said.

NEWS
Microsoft reaffirms no Longhorn server version (Internet Week)
Microsoft recently reaffirmed its stance on the next version of Windows, code-named Longhorn -- no server version will be available. A Microsoft representative, however, did say that some Longhorn desktop capabilities could be incorporated into Windows Server 2003. Microsoft has flip-flopped on a server version of Longhorn, due in 2005, since announcing it in November. Windows Server 2003 is due in April.

NEWS
Microsoft reveals its systems management goals (Computerworld)
The vice president of Microsoft's management business group Kirill Tatarinov said the company's long-term goal is to make Windows the most manageable platform. Key is the System Definition Model (SDM), an XML-based blueprint that will define the resources on which an application depends, its operational behavior and the manner in which an application is deployed and updated. The executive said it will take up to five years to put SDM on its products, including Visual Studio developer tools.

SOUND OFF
Linux: The right or wrong choice?
Many IT pros tell us that they've recommended Linux but that top execs vetoed Linux in favor of a "safe" option like Windows or Unix. That's what happened to the IT pro in this story.

Have you or an IT pro you know struck out with a Linux pitch? Please tell us why Linux would have been a better choice! Or, on the flip side, why are you happy that your company rejected Linux and chose Windows?

Need to respond anonymously? That's fine. Choose a pseudonym for yourself and the company involved!

THE MISSING LINK
E-mail: Where business mixes with pleasure

They may be e-mails, and they may come from work, but that hardly means they're work e-mails. Some new research from a British e-mail management firm shows that more than half of messages sent from the company computer on the company's time are purely personal. In fact, at one government workplace, 70% of the electronic missives were for pleasure, not business. Maybe 70% of the e-mails those public servants sent from home were business-related -- in which case, there's some lovely oceanfront property in Oklahoma for sale.
