According to a Meta Group analyst, Microsoft picked a perfect time to add XML functionality to its Office software suite, because enterprises will now have plenty of time to learn how it works before XML-enabling back-end systems. However, Office is not the desired front end for every enterprise process.

Microsoft will play tag, announces RFID plans (Reuters)
Microsoft plans to get into the radio frequency identification (RFID) software business. RFID is an increasingly popular way for shopkeepers, manufacturers and distributors to keep track of their inventories -- it uses tags that can be monitored by remote radio receivers. Microsoft plans to make Windows desktop, server and applications software work with RFID and will develop programs to use the technology.

KNOW-IT-ALL QUIZ OF THE DAY #295
Share and share alike
Sometimes an admin or user will delete a folder that has an active file share on it and ignore the warning that Windows provides when this is done. Not only does this log an error, but under some conditions the share itself isn't removed, and will continue to throw an error whenever the system is restarted. The easiest way to keep this from happening is to:
a. Remove the share from the Shared Folders section of Comp Mgmt
b. Trace the missing share via your error logs and delete it
c. Remove the share from the registry
d. Both a. and c.
e. Share your active files with the other kids

THE MISSING LINK
Kids being raised on spam
![]()
You would think one would have to be "at least this tall" -- like the roller coaster requirement -- to receive spam. But even kids aren't safe from the daily deluge. A new study from Symantec Corp. shows that four out of five kids are getting spammed. They get all the usual suspects, from cheap credit card offers to cheap Viagra to pornography. One in five children actually opens and reads the junk, and you know what some of that more salacious spam looks like. Too bad you can't put spam somewhere near the Drano, Clorox and other household cleaners -- well out of reach.
