LEAD STORY
Microsoft to offer licensing discount  (CRN)
Microsoft has tweaked Software Assurance again. The company announced a "Step-Up License" deal (to debut in July) that lets licensed customers with Software Assurance or Enterprise Agreements migrate from standard edition server software to enterprise server software at a discount until September 2004. Gartner analyst Alvin Park said that this promotion will save customers a significant chunk of money.

THE MISSING LINK
'Bullfighter' sticks it to corporate bull

Don't you love terms like "incentivize" and "extensible repository"? Corporate drivel like that can be so ridiculously confusing it could make an MBA blush. Deloitte Consulting knows a lot of people have a beef with business bull. That's why the firm has unleashed a digital matador on the madness -- a software program called "Bullfighter" to help writers of business documents steer clear of jarring jargon. Deloitte officials say that firms with something to hide (like Enron) tend to rely heavily on the vexing verbiage. The most hated word among Deloitte employees? "Leverage." Ole!
