The tool is called Software Update Services (SUS) and has been recently revised. Administrators who are looking for a way to manage upgrades centrally should consider it since it's a free download and contains a good deal of the functionality of commercial programs with roughly the same feature set. >> CLICK for the full tip: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/infoCenter/tip/0,294276,sid1_gci932849,00.html?track=NL-120 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= EASILY MANAGE MULTIPLE SYSTEMS USING MMC | by Tim Fenner Even in this age of server consolidation, you may still have two or more servers on your network. If you are responsible for monitoring and managing multiple servers (or even workstations), you will find that it can be time consuming to physically move to each system to check on their individual status. An easier way to administer your systems is to create a one-stop shop, from which you can easily navigate through each and every system you wish to manage. >> CLICK for the full tip: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/infoCenter/tip/0,294276,sid1_gci932153,00.html?track=NL-120 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= VIEW YOUR KERBEROS TICKETS | by James Michael Stewart If you are having difficulties with Kerberos, if you suspect something isn't working right, if you want to ensure that you are using Kerberos for authentication protection, or if you are just curious about the contents of your active tickets, then KerbTray is for you. Find out more about this tool here. >> CLICK for the full tip: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/infoCenter/tip/0,294276,sid1_gci932695_tax294659,00.html?track=NL-120 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= GROUP POLICY SETUP AND THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE | Ask Serdar Yegulalp Dear Serdar: I currently manage a Windows 2000 server. We use third-party software from Sentinel called Ranger. I decided to use policy editor to set up our desktops. Ranger has provided them with their start menu. Groups have been created in Ranger to provide roaming profiles. Desktops for domain admin work using policy editor, but they don't work for other standard users. I am just wondering if setting up other groups in policy editor has conflicted with Ranger. If I remove groups in policy editor, will it corrupt the registry on the server? >> CLICK for Serdar Yegulalp's expert response: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/infoCenter/askTheExpertsAnswer/0,294272,sid1_gci927469_tax294655,00.html?track=NL-120 Want more tips like this one?
