    Site Exclusives:
    >> Admin restrictions help keep Active Directory safe
Service administrators may be in charge of keeping Active Directory safe, but they can also be an organization's greatest liability.
    >> Microsoft to launch SUS 2.0 beta in January
Customer demand for SUS is so strong that Microsoft delayed testing of a new version of the Windows utility to make it a formal beta program. A Microsoft executive says SUS 2.0 will sport four major improvements over the current version.
    >> Gates is a tough act to follow
What Jerry Lewis is to the Labor Day Telethon, Bill Gates is to Comdex. If ever a day comes when Gates opts out of headlining the annual Las Vegas event, the IT community will be the lesser for it. This year, Microsoft's chief software architect did a round of media interviews before and during Comdex, and -- no surprise here -- Windows security was the topic du jour.

    Tip of the Week:
Many behaviors in Windows can be restricted or modified through the use of administrative policies, resulting in an error message to the user: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." However, this same message can be generated under conditions that have nothing to do with administrative restrictions. In fact, this notice may be the result of a damaged registry key.
