TAKE YOUR PICK: NATIVE OR MIXED MODE | James Michael Stewart

Choosing between native mode and mixed mode can be a big issue. It
all comes down to one key point -- whether you want to use
pre-Windows 2000 systems (e.g. Windows NT 4.0 Server) as domain
controllers or not. If you can make a firm decision about using only
Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 as your domain
controllers, then you should elect to deploy a native mode domain. If
you must leave open the possibility of using Windows NT 4.0 Server as
a domain controller, you must stick with mixed mode.

WHEN BDCs GO BAD | James Michael Stewart

We don't live in a perfect world, and as long as that continues, we
will be using legacy solutions in our enterprise IT environments. How
many of you still have Windows NT 4.0 Server BDCs on your Windows
2000 Server Active Directory domains? Yep, just as I thought. Many of
you are retaining these legacy systems to maintain backward
compatibility with older clients, out-of-date software, or in-house
developed solutions. And, short of revamping your entire
organization, you'll be hanging on to those NT BDCs for the
foreseeable future.

CAN'T MAKE A CONNECTION WITH GLOBAL CATALOG | Ask Paul Hinsberg

Dear Paul:

server. But now I am receiving the message, "unable to establish
connection with global catalog," in Event Viewer. Can you help me?
