WINDOWS AND HYPER-THREADING | Serdar Yegulalp

When you run Windows on a machine that has Pentium 4 processors
installed, you should be aware that the processors are using
hyper-threading. That's a technology that allows one processor to
look like two virtual processors; it speeds up program execution. But
there could be a problem: The BIOS may not properly report the state
of the processors to the OS, and that could degrade performance.

KEEP THE CORE SYSTEM IN RAM | Matthew Laccetti

Windows XP takes portions of the operating system, applications and
data files that aren't currently needed in RAM and temporarily stores
the data on the hard disk in the paging file. If you have a
considerable amount of RAM in your system -- 512 MB or more -- you
can improve system performance by preventing the operating system
from sending user-mode and kernel-mode drivers, as well as
kernel-mode system code, to the paging file.

BOOTING UP WITH THE F8 OPTION | Jane Amorim

configuration" can be a welcome relief for stress. If you haven't
tried it, you don't know what you might be missing! SearchWin2000.com
member Jane Amorim discovered its benefits after installing software
that crashed her device drivers. She's also used it after removing
spyware such as 'new dot net' that rendered her NIC helpless.

HOW CAN I REDUCE ROAMING PROFILE SIZE? | Ask Jerry Honeycutt

Dear Jerry,
How can I reduce roaming profile size? I want users to keep a profile
of 15MB so that new software keeps the application data outside of
the profile. Currently we use Windows NT and many users can't log out
because new software like Netscape and Adobe puts a lot of data in
the application folder of the roaming folder.
